WellConnect: International Graduate Students Series

Welcome to the WellConnect: International Graduate Students Series, a series of thoughtfully designed events tailored to meet the distinct needs of international graduate students at Brown University. Our primary objective is to promote a sense of belonging and cultivate a strong, interconnected community among our international graduate students.

WellConnect: International Graduate Students Series | Fall 2024: #TransitionInsights 

Introduction

Welcome to the WellConnect: International Graduate Students Series, a sequence of engaging events tailored specifically for the unique experiences of international graduate students at Brown University. Our mission is to create a welcoming and supportive community, fostering a sense of belonging among international students as they transition into their academic and social lives at Brown. Partnering with key offices such as Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), BWell Health Promotion, the Center for Career Exploration, and others, we aim to provide students with holistic support and a variety of meaningful experiences.

Meal will be provided for all WellConnect Events. 

1. International Graduate Mixer

  • Date: Thursday, September 26, 2024

  • Time: 6:00 – 7:30 PM

  • Location: Global Brown Center

Kick off the semester with a fun and casual mixer! Meet your fellow international graduate students, enjoy some delicious food, and start building friendships and connections that will enrich your experience at Brown. Dinner will be provided.

2. WellConnect Health Care Luncheon (Sign Up)

  • Date: Wednesday, October 16, 2024  

  • Time: 12-1 pm 

  • Location:Alumnae Hall Crystal Room

Partner: Health Services at Brown Health and Wellness

Enjoy a delicious lunch with our distinguished guest speakers, who will share valuable resources for international graduate students in their pursuit of understanding various aspects of well-being and sexual health. This event will address how students can access help in dealing with the stressors related to obtaining reliable sexual health information, receiving gender and identity support, accessing contraception, and addressing other issues that impact their sexual health and overall well-being.  To make this event even more beneficial for you, we invite you to submit your questions anonymously before the event. Your questions will help shape the discussion and ensure that we cover the topics most important to you.

3. International Graduate Showcase and Movie Night (Sign Up)

  • Date: Wednesday, October 30, 2024

  • Time: 6:00 – 9:00 PM

  • Location: Smith-Buonanno Room 201

Join your fellow international graduate students for an evening of talent and entertainment! Whether you want to sing, dance, recite poetry, or simply enjoy the performances, this event is open to everyone. After the showcase, stick around to watch a movie and connect with others in a relaxed setting. Dinner will be provided. Sign up to share your talent here

4. Bridging Cultures: Effective Communication Strategies for the US Job Market (Sign Up)

  • Date: Monday, November 18, 2024

  • Time: 12:00 – 1:30 PM

  • Location: Alumnae Crystal Room

Partners: Career Services and Professional Development at SPS, OISSS, and Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning 

Join us for an insightful career workshop specifically designed primarily for master level international students, but all international graduate students are welcome to attend. Learn strategies for navigating job interviews, understanding U.S. workplace culture, and identifying opportunities for professional growth.  

5. Global Mingle: Holidays Without Borders (Sign Up)

  • Date: Tuesday, November 19, 2024

  • Time: 12:00 – 1:30 PM

  • Location:Alumnae Crystal Room

In collaboration with CAPS, this event provides a space for international graduate students to come together and support one another during the holiday season. Holidays can be challenging when you're far from home, and this event offers a warm community where students can share tips, resources, and holiday events that make this time joyful. Lunch will be provided.

#1 WellConnect: New Year New Me Social: Vision Board and Movie Night

Kick off the semester with positive energy! Let your creativity flow as you design your goals and aspirations for 2024. Enjoy the company of friends, delicious Chinese cuisine and refreshing drinks. Stick around as we transform the space into a cozy movie night with a timeless classic movie!

Location: Langs Bowlarama (Meet outside of Page-Robinson Hall) 

Join us for an evening of strikes, spares, and socializing at our WellConnect Bowling Social! This event, capped at 30 students, guarantees a fantastic time filled with laughter and friendly competition. #5 International Gradaute Gala (RSVP Here)

Come together for a night of celebration and community at the International Graduate Students Gala! Join us for an evening devoted to embracing our international identity and fostering connections. Why WellConnect? 

Fall 2023: #TransitionInsights

The inaugural Fall 2023 WellConnect series garnered a total of 135 RSVPs and successfully engaged with over 100 international graduate students through events designed to assist them in their transitions to Brown University. We have partnered with key offices of support, such as the Counseling and Psychological Services Office, BWell Health Promotion, The Center for Career Exploration and many more, to offer this comprehensive series.

The WellConnect Healthcare Luncheon provided a platform for students to interact with a distinguished panel of experts, addressing various stressors related to sexual health, gender and identity support, contraception, and overall well-being. The International Graduate Students Career Chats offered an empowering experience, featuring a diverse panel of international faculty, staff, and alumni sharing stories and insights on navigating career opportunities. The Global Mingle: Holidays Without Borders aimed to create a warm and supportive community for international students, addressing challenges during the holiday season. All three events achieved high attendance and positive engagement, fostering a supportive and informative environment. Looking ahead, we anticipate continued success in future WellConnect events.
